21 Days Of Prayer & Fasting

Our church is doing a '21 Days of Prayer & Fasting' campaign. They are encouraging each of us to fast from something in order to devote & focus more of our attention on God. The last time I did this I gave up Pepsi, which I am hugely addicted to. I decided to go that route again this time, but I still felt like I could give up more for God. Pepsi doesn't consume my time. The Internet consumes my time! So, I debated whether to give up the Internet completely or certain aspects of the Internet. I prayed about this decision, and I have decided to give up Facebook, as well as computer games, for 21 days. I spend a ridiculous amount of time playing silly games on the computer...Bejewled 2, Bubble Spinner, Chuzzle, etc. They are fun, but the time I spend on them could be better spent. I have decided to use that time praying, working on my Women's Bible Study homework, taking care of my home, & being a better wife & mother. I am going to take my eyes off of these things, and focus them on the Lord. This should be a fabulous 21 days!! :-)

Not Cool & So Not Fun!

This weekend was a computer lovers nightmare. Seriously! I was having problems with my McAfee Total Protection. It said VirusScan needed to be reinstalled. However, my silly computer was giving me fits when trying to reinstall. During this whole stressful situation my computer desktop background changed to this...

Uh-Oh!!! I knew that couldn't be good. I didn't even have to be a computer genius to figure that one out.

After much work and many stressful moments, I finally got my computer looking like this...

All is right with my world again! I hope I never have to go through that again.

So Nice!

I get so tired of hearing my children complain, so the other night was so nice. I love when they enjoy what we are having for dinner, which happened just the other night. Woohoo!

Ham & Cheddar In A Loaf

Ingredients

1 lb. frozen bread dough, thawed
1 pkg. (9 oz.) OSCAR MAYER Deli Fresh Shaved Smoked Ham
1 cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/4 cup MIRACLE WHIP Dressing
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

Directions

HEAT
oven to 350°F.

FLATTEN dough on lightly floured surface. Roll into 12x8-inch rectangle with rolling pin. (If dough is difficult to roll, cover with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for 30 min. before rolling out.) Top with ham to within 1/2 inch of edges. Mix Cheddar and dressing; spread over ham.

MOISTEN edges of dough with water. Fold lengthwise into thirds; pinch seams together to seal. Place, seam-side down, on lightly greased baking sheet. Cut several slits in top. Brush with egg; sprinkle with Parmesan.

BAKE 35 to 40 min. or until golden brown. Cool 10 min. before slicing.

Winter Beauty

Let's face it, winter generally gets a bum rap. I'm guilty of being down on winter. I don't like the cold. They gray skies give me the blues. Like I posted here, I generally only enjoy winter from the comforts of my own home.

However, today I ventured out to take a few pictures. The temperature is in the mid 30's, which really isn't too bad...for short periods of time. Plus, the wind wasn't blowing too bad.

See what I saw...

Beauty! Winter is beautiful. Every season has its own beauty, but all too often we dismiss the beauty of winter. Not this time! I vow to look around for all the winter beauty, and I do hope you will do the same.

My Hero

Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study started back up today. Woohoo! We started a study of David called 'Annointed, Transformed, Redeemed,' which was written by Priscilla Shirer, Beth Moore, & Kay Arthur.

The first two weeks of the study are by Priscilla Shirer. During the video today she said something that was powerful. She was talking about the saying, "Who's Your Daddy?" Well, as a christian our father is God. Here is what she had to say about our Daddy...

He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end. He’s the keeper of creation and the creator of all. He’s the architect of the universe and the manager of all time. He always was, always is, always will be, unmoved, unchanged, undefeated, and never undone. He was bruised but brought healing. He was pierced but eased pain. He was persecuted but brought freedom. He was dead and brings life. He is risen to bring power and He reigns to bring peace.

The world can’t understand Him. Armies can’t defeat Him. Schools can’t explain Him. And leaders, can’t ignore Him. Herod couldn’t kill Him. Nero couldn’t crush Him. The New Age can’t replace Him. And Oprah cannot explain Him away.

You remind yourself that He is light. He is love. He is longevity and He is the Lord. He is goodness and kindness and faithfulness and He is God. He is holy and righteous and powerful and pure. His ways are right. His word eternal. His will unchanging and His mind is on us. He’s our savior, our guide, our peace, our joy, our comfort, our Lord, and He rules our lives.

I serve Him because His bond is love, His yoke is easy, His burden is light. And His goal for us is abundant life.

I follow Him because He is the wisdom of the wise, the power of the powerful, the Ancient of Days, the Ruler of rulers, the Leader of all leaders. His goal is a relationship with me.

He’ll never leave you, never forsake you, never mislead you, never forget you, never overlook you and never cancel your appointment in His appointment book. Never.

When you fall, He’ll lift you up. When you fail, He’ll forgive you. When you’re weak, He is strong. When you’re lost, He’s your way. When you’re afraid, He’s your courage. When you stumble, He will steady you. When you’re hurt, He’s going to heal you. When you’re broken, he will mend you. When you’re blind, He will lead you. When you’re hungry, He will feed you. When you face trials, He’s with you. When I face persecution, He shields me. When I face problems, He will comfort me. When I face loss, He will provide for me. And when we face death, He will carry us all home to meet Him. He is everything. For everybody, everywhere, every time and in every way.

He is your God and that, sisters, is who you belong to.

How great is that? We are so blessed to have such an awesome Daddy!

As I was searching the Internet for this video quote, I came across something else Priscilla said. She was talking about who He is, and this is what she had to say...

In Genesis, He's the breath of life
In Exodus, He is the Passover Lamb
In Leviticus, He's our high priest
In Numbers, the fire by night
Deuteronomy, He's Israel's Guide
Joshua, He's salvation's choice
Judges, He's Israel's Guard
In Ruth, the kinsmen's redeemer
1st and 2nd Samuel, our trusted prophet
In Kings and Chronicles He is Sovereign
In Ezra, He's the true and faithful scribe
In Nehemiah, the re-builder of broken walls and lives
In Esther, He's Mordecai's courage
In Job, the timeless redeemer
In Psalms He is our morning song
In Proverbs, He is our wisdom
Ecclesiastes, He's the time and season
In Song of Solomon, He is the lover's dream
In Isaiah He is Prince of Peace
In Jeremiah, the weeping prophet
Lamentations, the cry for Israel
Ezekiel, the call from sin
Daniel, the stranger in the fire
Hosea, the forever faithful
Joel, the spirit's power
Amos, the strong-arms that carry
Obadiah, the Lord our Savior
Jonah, the great missionary
Micah, the promise of peace
Nahum, our strength and shield
In Habakkuk and Zephaniah, He's brings revival
In Haggai He restores that which was lost
IN Zachariah, He's our fountain
And in Malachi, He's the son of righteousness rising with healing in His wings
AND THAT'S JUST THE OLD TESTAMENT

In Matthew Mark Luke and John, He is God and Messiah
In the spirit filled book of Acts, He is the reigning fire from Heaven
In Romans, He is the grace of God
Corinthians, the power of love
Galatians, freedom from the curse of sin
Ephesians, our glorious treasure
Philippians, the servant's heart
Colossians, He's God and the trinity
Thessalonians, our calling King
In Timothy, Titus and Philemon, He's our mediator and our faithful pastor
In Hebrews, the everlasting courage
In James, the one who heals the sick
In 1st and 2nd Peter, our faithful shepherd
In John and Jude, He's the lover coming for His bride

AND in the Revelation, in the very end, when it's all over, said and done, when time is NO MORE. He is and will always be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, son of Man, Lamb of God, The Great I am, Alpha and Omega, God and Savior He is Jesus Christ the Lord HE IS EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED!

I can just tell this is going to be an awesome study. Are you doing a study at this time? Do share!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for the sacrifice Jesus made for me. I am extremely thankful that all of my sins are washed away, especially my past ones that used to weigh heavy on my heart and mind.

I am thankful that our family gathering/reunion up north went well. We all had a great time!

I am so very, very thankful that Women's Bible Study starts back up today. We will be studying David and Nehemiah. Can't wait!

I am extremely thankful for my wonderful parents. My dad has since gone to be with Jesus, but he was a wonderful man, and my mother is such a giving, kind & caring person. I am blessed!

I am oh, so very thankful that my hubby is coming back from Vegas today. He was in Columbus, Ohio all last week, and he has been in Vegas two days this week. I miss him!

Finally, I am thankful for my wonderful friends. All of them! I have been truly blessed in this area. Lately, my friend Carrie and I have been chatting on the phone much more, and I am lovin' it. She is such a beautiful person...inside and out.

Thank you Lord for all the blessings you have bestowed on me. Thank you for walking with me everyday and guiding me in the right directions. Without you, Lord, I would be a wreck, and I know this to be true because I was a wreck before I allowed you in my life. Thank you!

70's Dress Purchased

Okay, I took the comments that I received on my 70's dress post into consideration, and I decided to go a completely different route. I scoured the Internet. I looked high. I looked low. This is what I finally decided on...

If that doesn't say 70's, I don't know what does! It is actually from the 70's, and the colors are far out. Plus, to me it looks like something a child, which my 7-year-old still is no matter what she believes, might have worn during that decade.

Thank you for all your opinions and help!!! Now, tell me what you think of the final pick. :-)

I'm Open To New Experiences!

On Monday I was pulled over by the police. Now, if you know me well, you are probably laughing. You probably think I was speeding, since that is my tendency, but I promise you I wasn't.

I was sitting in the Sonic drive-thru, for several minutes, talking on my cell phone to my friend, Lisa. I saw this cop sitting across the street in a parking lot, but I really didn't think much of him then. As I pulled out, he got right behind me. As soon as I turned onto the main road, he turned his lights on. I got off the phone, of course. Not that it is illegal, but I didn't want Lisa to hear me cry.

Just kidding! I didn't cry. Jeez! What kind of silly girl do you think I am? Instead, I said to the kind officer, "I am not usually clueless as to why I get pulled over, but this time I am truly clueless. What did I do wrong officer?" Do you know what he said? "Nothing!"

Nothing!!! Awesome! That is a first. He just pulled me over to let me know that my back passenger side tire was really low. I needed to get air pronto. How nice of him. When I took the tire to be aired up the guy joked that it wasn't low...it was flat! Yikes! You should have seen it. Clueless me was driving around on a severely low tire, but I got it aired up and went on my merry way.

Thank you Mr. Police Man for pulling me over....and not giving me a ticket. What a nice, new experience.

Help!!

Jeffrey is taking Ali to the Girl Scouts' Me & My Guy Dance in a couple of weeks. The theme is 70's, and I am clueless. Sure, I know the 70's were famous for mini skirts, platform shoes, and go-go boots, but frankly I don't want to send my daughter in any of those things. Plus, I keep thinking that if I am going to buy her any clothes at this time, it needs to be something she can wear for Easter. So, do you think any of these dresses would work?

Do any of these say 70's to you? They don't really to me, but that is because all I can picture is Disco Fever types of people. There has to be a better way to dress my daughter for this dance. Please help me!!!

Heads Or Tails

The theme/prompt for THIS week, January 19, is:

HEADS - "Pack"

I have packed many things in my life, since I have moved many times and traveled a few times. Let me just say this....I don't like to pack! I'm always afraid I will forget something. I tell myself that it won't be anything important, and I can probably just pick whatever I forgot up at WalMart. I mean they do have WalMart everywhere. It doesn't matter though. The anxiety of packing is still there.

I usually put off packing until the last moment possible, since it is unpleasant. Oh, and when Jeff wants me to pack for him, I just freeze. What if he doesn't like what I put in his bag? What if I don't pack enough underwear? I would just prefer he do this himself, so he only has himself to blame.

Jeffrey was in Ohio last week on business, and he asked me to pack his bag. I packed his bathroom stuff, but I made him help me pack his clothes. I am just such a wimp! He is leaving tomorrow for Las Vegas, and he has yet to ask me to pack his bag. Hopefully he has figured out that his wife doesn't even like to pack her own bag. Does this make me a horrible wife? I surely hope not!

Family Reunion

This past weekend my mom, my kids and I went up towards Chicago for a family reunion that I hosted in honor of my sisters.

Josh didn't have school on Friday, and Ali only had a half day, so we picked her up and got on the road shortly after that. We checked into the hotel and went swimming. Then we went to Lou Malnatti's to have pizza with my niece, Heather, her boyfriend, Mike, my sister, Kim, and her husband, Tim. We hadn't been seated at our table too long when Josh just kept leaning on me. He seemed really tired. So, I let him just rest on me or my mom. After a short time he bent his head down, and I felt something warm hit my leg. Ewwwww! He had thrown up all over himself, my leg and the floor. So, we went back to the hotel to get him changed, and everyone met there to enjoy some pizza and conversation. Josh just slept in a chair.

Sadly, I didn't get any pictures from this night. I am irked because it was my first time meeting my niece, Heather. She is beautiful! Not just physically. Her personality is warm and kind. Wonderful! Her boyfriend is very nice too. Tim did take pictures, so I will have to get some from him.

When we got up Saturday morning, we went downstairs to have breakfast, and then we let the kids go swimming. They had a blast!

Here they are racing.

After swimming we went back to the room to pack up and get ready. We arrived at the restaurant around 11:30. My sister, Tammy, and her family were already there. She has a beautiful family! Everyone arrived pretty soon after us, and the reunion was busy. Lots of people, so I am eager to find a time when I can get together with all of them again. I want to spend some time really getting to know them.

Here are some of the pics from our reunion.

First we have a picture of Kim showing pictures she brought to our Aunt Emmy, Tammy, Donna & Dave, and Karyssa is observing from over on the left.

This is my Meggie sitting on my brother's lap.

Karyssa, Kaelyn, Kierah & Ali playing some cards.

This is Josh with his cousin Gabe. We like to teach them young about hanging out at the bar. ;-)

Here is a sibling shot. This is the first ever picture of all 4 of us together, but hopefully it will not be the last. So, here we have Jason, Tammy, myself, and Kim.

Jason, Kim & Tammy are having a discussion.

This is me with my Aunt Emmy, her son Joe, and his children, Jake & Anna.

Cousins!! In the back we have Jason & Joe. In front we have Kim, Tammy, myself, Kathy, & Lee.

This is a picture of myself, my siblings, our aunts & uncles and my mom.

Kyle, Karyssa, Meghan & Kierah posing for the camera.

Poor Jake is being attacked by his younger cousins.

When we left the restaurant, it was nearly 5 PM and my kids were exhausted. It didn't take them long to pass out in the car.

So, we had some quiet time in the car, but we also had some very noisy time. See......

It was a great time! I look forward to more time with my siblings. We are hoping to do a camping trip in the near future. I love to camp, but I am what I refer to as a "lazy camper." I like to just sit back, read a book, and enjoy the sounds of nature. Should be fun!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Milne!

A. A. Milne was born on this day back in 1882 in London, England. He was a humorist, playwright, and author of many books.

A. A. Milne is best known for his books about Christopher Robin & Winnie the Pooh. Christopher Robin was actually the name of Mr. Milne's son.

Milne died in 1956 in Sussex, England, but his memory will live on for a very long time thanks to that tubby little chubby all stuffed with fluff. You know...Winnie the Pooh. He's a willy, nilly, silly ole bear. ;-)

When Ali was a baby, I did her room in all classic Pooh. Here is a picture, not of her room, but of the bedding and wall hanging that were in her room.

Super Cute!

So, Happy Birthday, Mr. Milne! Thank you for your wonderful creation, Winnie the Pooh.

Friday Fill-Ins

1. The lesson I learned yesterday was that friends are there to help you when you need them most. Our sump pump was acting all whacky, and my friend Karen's hubby, Keith, came over to help me out. God bless them!

2. Any place where friends and family meet is wonderful.

3. All these years with a sewing machine, and I still don't know how to sew. I vow to take classes when all of my kids are in school full time.

4. I took off my coat and shoes when I arrived.

5. The truth is marriage is hard work, but it is worth it...honestly!

6. Jeffrey saying "Will you be my wife, lover & friend forever" is what I remember most from that day.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to having dinner out at Lou Malnati's with my sister, brother-in-law, and niece as well as my mom & kids, tomorrow my plans include hosting a family gathering at Millrose Restaurant in honor of my sisters, whom I reconnected with back in October and Sunday, I want to rest!

Wordful Wednesday~The View From My Windows

It's winter time in central Illinois, which means it is Cold. That's right Cold with a capital C. I don't mind the cold as long as I am in my warm and cozy home. I love snuggling up with my kiddos and watching a movie. I enjoy laying under my electric blanket while I read a book. I love being inside all toasty warm and looking out at the cold. Lately, this is what I see from my windows...

lots of snow and ice. This picture was taken from my sliding glass door.

Check out that long icicle. If you look close, you can also see the broken hummingbird feeder. I was a slacker and forgot to bring in all my outdoor things. Oops!

My wicker furniture sure does look cold, but that is okay because I am inside my toasty warm home.

The view from my front window is icy too. The sky is so blue and beautiful though, and you must admit that the white blanket on the ground looks so pure.

Here is the view from my bedroom window. Normally I can look out and see the kids playing, but there hasn't been much of that happening here lately. Well, they did play outside yesterday, since the temperatures were warming up. I believe we got up to 23 degrees yesterday, which felt great compared to the days the temperature sat right around zero.

Sunsets look great from inside this time of year.

So, never let it be said that I don't like winter. I love winter! I just love it from the comforts of my own well-heated home.

How about you? Do you enjoy winter?
